Laughter was still echoing through the tunnel as the group of three continued their exploration. With a map in the left hand and a compass in the other, Tina struggled to seen in the darkness. Only one of the torches survived; one light torch lost when Gloria let go of it and one lost when Tina stumbled. Both torches cracked when reaching the floor. In order to provide enough light to Tina and the floor, Kevin had to alternate between the two, since Tina did not have a single hand free. Tina was grateful that Kevin was at least trying to help out although he was still laughing now and then, whenever he seemed to remember what happened a while ago. Tina would always frown when Kevin started to chuckle but she had given up on reprimanding him. She understood that she would probably have laughed too if it weren’t for the little episode earlier.

The group of three didn’t check their watches, so they didn’t know for how long they had been down in the tunnel. They felt as if they had been wandering around for an eternity, however, they knew that only a short time could have passed. In the dark tunnel Kevin’s job increased as he was told to check the time. Slowly but surely they seemed to advance further and were closer to getting out of the tunnel as the floor seemed to be elevating further and further. Surely they would reach the exit soon they thought but luck didn’t seem to be on their side that day, as they suddenly reached a hall again. It looked identical to the hall they had left behind.

“Not another one again!”, Tina started but was immediately interrupted by Gloria:

“Wait – Isn’t this the same hall we had left behind? There is even my doorless door!”

“You’re right”, Kevin agreed.

“That would mean that the route we took was the wrong one. Luckily I marked the entrance that we took and the entrances from which we came with my black marker. It was right after all to bring it”, Tina confirmed her thoughts, “Nevertheless, it doesn’t excuse the fact that we have been wandering around for nothing.”

“That should have been my line, considering the fact that my foot is still hurting as well from the accident in the shed”, Gloria said as her eyebrows pulled together.

“At least we don’t have to choose between more doors, since there is only one left to go through”, Kevin said with an optimistic tone.

“Well, you could think of it in that way too. I feel as if my pain is starting to disappear”, Gloria’s face lit up.

“Since you have said that Gloria, I guess we don’t need a break and can just go on. Let’s go find out if the last door leads us to the exit”, Tina concluded.
